The Space Between The Trees by Norm Konyu

Meera and Mark are house hunting when Mark takes his eye off the road for a split second - and in that briefest of moments everything changes. The road disappears to be replaced by woodland and they crash.

As they try to find their way out of the woods to get help everything gets all twisty and turned around, the forest doesn't want to let them go . . . and thst, my friends, is about all I can tell you without ruining things.

I'm fairly new to graphic novels (although I devoured comics growing up) but The Space Between The Trees has certainly stirred my interest. The art is quite simplistic in its own way but at the same time quite sumptuous and an absolute joy to look at (after reading it I just went back and looked at the pictures and have done several times since).

The quality of the book too is quite glorious, an absolute pleasure to own (well done Titan).

As for the story - well, I settled in of an evening and thought I'd just have a quick nosey through it. That 'quick nosey' turned into 'I'm not putting this down anytime soon'. There were several times I thought I'd got a grip on what was happening and realised Meera and Mark weren't the only ones on the wrong path. A few pages from the end I saw where it was going and I paused as realisation dawned, Over the space of probably 60 or so pages I had become totally invested in the lives of M&M and didn't want to leave their story.

An excellently told story, beautifully illustrated  and a solid 5/5* read

Thanks to Titan Books for providing the review copy (and apologies for missing my original  review date). All thoughts and opinions are mine and mine alone.
